South Korea will accelerate the deployment plan of spy planes and stealth fighter jets to strengthen its defenses to face North Korea, Yonhap news agency reported on Tuesday (08/03/2011).
According to news agency Yonhap, South Korea initially planned to buy aircraft unmanned RQ-4 Global Hawk made in the United States in 2015 but decided to accelerate the purchase and deployment of the planes.
"Seoul to send a letter to Washington last year and is expected to receive final approval for the purchase of the aircraft's most sophisticated spy world in June," he said.
"Budget spending 45.2 billion won (40.4 million dollars) this year in the allocation in part to buy spy planes, "he said.
"If the U.S. side replied and approved the contents of our letter in June, we will mengarapkan mendatangani an initial contract on the purchase of Global Hawk aircraft at the end of this year," said one military source quoted by the news agency.
The defense ministry refused to confirm the report.
